Is the Explorer Down Shirt Jacket warm enough for winter?

It works as a midlayer or a mild-winter outer layer. With 600-fill down and no hood, it is not a substitute for a parka in deep cold.

No. The DWR coating sheds light snow and drizzle, but seams are not sealed and the fabric is not waterproof.

Obermeyer lists a relaxed fit, so it runs roomier than a standard shirt jacket. Most buyers can take their usual size to layer underneath.

The jacket only. No stuff sack or hood is included.

Down jackets usually drop after the holidays and at end-of-season sales in late winter. The current best new price is $119.73 at REI as of November 7, 2026.

Our take on the Obermeyer Men's Explorer Down Shirt Jacket

A lightweight down shirt jacket with a shirt collar, snap-front placket and 600-fill duck down insulation. The recycled nylon ripstop shell has a DWR coating for light snow and drizzle, and the relaxed fit layers over a flannel or sweater. It is not hooded and not built for heavy rain. The best new price is $119.73 at REI as of November 7, 2026, with two stores listing it new.
