Is the Onix Malice DB good for beginners?

It can work for beginners who want control, but the 7.8–8.2 oz weight and 4 1/4 in grip may feel heavy and large at first. Lighter 7–7.5 oz paddles are usually easier to start with.

Does it come with a cover?

No. The paddle ships without a cover, so budget for a separate paddle cover if you want one.

What is the difference between the open-throat and standard Malice?

The open-throat cut removes material near the base of the face, which shifts weight and widens the lower sweet spot. The standard Malice has a closed throat and a more conventional shape.

Is the face textured for spin?

Yes. The DF composite face has a textured surface, and Onix rates it for maximum spin. USA Pickleball approval is not stated here, so check the governing body's list if you play sanctioned events.

When is the price lowest?

The best new price seen is $45.99 at eBay as of November 8, 2026. Paddle prices often dip around major sales events, so compare across the 6 stores listing it before buying.
