Is the Onkyo T-403 worth buying?

Only if you want a period tuner for a vintage separates system. It is not a standalone radio and needs an amp and speakers.

Does it have built-in speakers or an amplifier?

No. The T-403 is a tuner only. It outputs line-level audio to a separate preamp or integrated amplifier.

Expect the tuner itself and, if included, its power cord and antenna. Accessories vary by seller, so confirm before buying.

Will it pick up modern FM stations?

Yes, it tunes the standard FM and AM bands. Reception quality depends on your antenna and location.

How does it compare with a modern tuner?

A modern tuner adds digital presets, RDS and remote control. The T-403 offers vintage build and quartz-locked tuning instead.

Vintage tuners like this sell on the used market, where prices swing with condition and completeness. Watch listings for units with a tested, working tuner section.

Our take on the Onkyo T-403 Quartz Synthesized AM/FM Stereo Tuner

The Onkyo T-403 is a vintage quartz-synthesized AM/FM stereo tuner from Onkyo's early 1980s component line. Quartz lock tuning holds stations precisely, and it was built to pair with Onkyo's separate preamps and amps of the era. It is a tuner only: no amplifier, no speakers, no streaming. It suits a vintage hi-fi collector or someone rebuilding a period system, not a shopper wanting a plug-and-play radio.
