Is 703 FRK worth it over cheaper mineral wool?

703 is denser and stiffer than typical mineral wool, so panels hold their shape and absorb predictably. Mineral wool costs less and is less itchy, but it sags in tall frames unless supported.

Which side should the foil face?

Face the foil toward the room when you want some low-frequency reflection, as in a corner bass trap. For pure mid and high absorption, many builders peel or cut away the foil so fabric sits against bare fiberglass.

How many panels do I need for a room?

A common starting point is covering 15 to 20 percent of wall area with 2-inch or thicker absorbers. This 50-pack covers about 200 square feet, so it suits a full studio or a large home theater.

Can I use it inside a wall as insulation?

It can go in a wall cavity, but R-4.3 is low for thermal insulation. Use it for sound control and choose a higher-R product for heat.

Fifty 1-inch by 24-inch rigid fiberglass panels with foil facing on one side. Framing, fabric and mounting hardware are not included.

Building-supply prices move with fiberglass demand and freight. Compare the per-panel price across stores and factor in shipping, since a 36 lb pack is costly to ship.

Our take on the Owens Corning 703 FRK Acoustic Fiberglass

Owens Corning 703 is a rigid fiberglass board sold in 1-inch, 24-inch panels with a foil-facing (FRK) on one side. It is the standard material for acoustic panels and bass traps because it absorbs mid and high frequencies well and the foil adds some low-frequency reflection. A 50-panel multipack covers roughly 200 square feet, enough for a serious studio or home theater treatment. The R-4.3 rating is modest, so it is bought for sound control, not for wall insulation value.
