Is the Pelican Exalt 100 good for beginners?

Yes. It is stable on calm water, light enough to handle alone, and ships with a paddle. It is not the boat for open water or strong wind.

Does it come with a paddle?

Yes, the Exalt 100 is sold as a kayak-and-paddle package. Check the listing for any other included accessories, since bundles vary.

How much weight can it hold?

The maximum capacity is 275 lb, which covers most adults plus a small dry bag. Keep in mind that loading it near the limit reduces freeboard.

Is a 10-foot kayak too small for me?

At 10 ft it suits paddlers up to roughly 6 ft 2 in, depending on leg length. Taller or heavier paddlers should sit in one first, because the cockpit is snug.

Sit-inside or sit-on-top for a first kayak?

Sit-inside is drier and tracks better, which suits lakes and slow rivers. Sit-on-top is easier to re-enter after a capsize and better in warm water.

When is the best time to buy it?

Prices tend to drop at the end of summer and during off-season sales. The current best price is already near the low end of its recent range.

Our take on the PELICAN Exalt 100 Kayak with Paddle

The Pelican Exalt 100 is a 10-foot sit-inside recreational kayak that weighs 36 lb and carries up to 275 lb. It comes with a paddle, so a beginner can get on the water without buying extra gear. The sit-inside hull and adjustable foot braces give it more glide and leg support than a typical sit-on-top. Its latest best price sits near the low end of its recent range, so this is a good moment to buy.
