Our take on the Phewnyzo 12-Piece Walnut Wood Carving Knife Set with Detail Knife Whittling Knife Hook Knife and Sharpener

The Phewnyzo 12-Piece Wood Carving Knife Set is a starter whittling kit built around walnut-handled blades, including detail, whittling and hook knives plus a sharpener. Twelve pieces in one box makes it a low-friction way to try carving without buying tools one at a time. At $82.96 at Lowe's as of November 5, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare it against.

Pros
  • Twelve pieces cover detail, whittling and hook work in one purchase
  • Walnut handles are warmer and lighter in the hand than plain painted wood
  • Includes a sharpener, so the kit is usable out of the box
  • Hook knife opens up spoons, bowls and kuksa-style carving
  • A sensible gift for someone curious about woodcarving
Cons
  • Blade steel and edge geometry are not specified, so expect to hone edges before first use
  • Budget kit knives often arrive with uneven bevels that need reworking
  • A single sharpener rarely suits hook and detail blades equally well
  • Only one new price is listed, so it is hard to judge whether $82.96 is a good deal

Questions and answers

Is this set good for a complete beginner?
Yes. It bundles the core carving shapes, a hook knife and a sharpener, which is enough to start whittling and spoon carving without buying tools separately. Expect to strop the edges before your first cut.
What is included in the 12 pieces?
The set is described as detail, whittling and hook knives plus a sharpener, totaling 12 pieces. The exact split between knives and accessories is not spelled out, so confirm the contents with the seller if a specific blade matters to you.
Is $82.96 a good price for this kit?
It is the only new price listed, at Lowe's as of November 5, 2026, so there is no recent range to compare it against. Comparable 12-piece starter sets with a sharpener often sit in a similar range.
Do the knives come sharp and ready to use?
Budget carving sets usually arrive sharp enough to test but benefit from stropping or honing first. Check each bevel for flat spots before starting a project.
Can I carve spoons and bowls with this set?
Yes, the hook knife is the tool for hollowing spoons, bowls and cups. Pair it with the whittling knife for roughing out and the detail knife for cleanup.
How should I care for the walnut handles and blades?
Wipe blades dry after use and keep them lightly oiled to prevent rust. Treat the walnut handles occasionally with a food-safe oil or wax to stop them drying and cracking.
Where is the Phewnyzo 12-Piece Walnut Wood Carving Knife Set with Detail Knife Whittling Knife Hook Knife and Sharpener cheapest?
At Lowe's, for $82.96, as of our latest check.
