Our take on the PlugSaf 30 ft 50 Amp RV/EV Extension Cord NEMA 14-50

The PlugSaf is a 30-foot extension cord built for 50-amp, 250-volt service with NEMA 14-50 plugs on both ends. It is aimed at RV pedestals and 14-50 outlets, letting you park farther from the hookup or reach a garage outlet from a driveway. The 30-foot length is the main selling point: most 50-amp RV cords run 15 to 25 feet. It is a passive cord, so it adds no surge protection, and 50-amp cords at this length are heavy and stiff in cold weather.

Best forRV owners who need extra reach from a 50-amp pedestalEV owners charging from a NEMA 14-50 outletCampers parked far from the power postRenters who cannot add a permanent outlet
Pros
  • 30 feet of reach, longer than most 50-amp RV cords
  • NEMA 14-50 male and female ends fit standard RV and EV plugs
  • Rated for 50 amps at 250 volts
  • One cord covers both RV and EV charging needs
Cons
  • Heavy and bulky to coil and store
  • Stiff in cold weather
  • No surge or GFCI protection built in
  • Check the plug type: 14-50 is not the same as TT-30 or 14-30

Questions and answers

Is 30 feet long enough for my RV?
Measure from the pedestal to your RV's inlet before buying. Most RVs carry a 25- to 36-foot cord, so this adds reach rather than replacing it. If you regularly park more than 30 feet from the post, you may need a longer cord.
Can I use it to charge my EV?
Yes, if your EVSE has a NEMA 14-50 plug and your outlet is a 14-50 on a 50-amp circuit. The cord is rated for 50 amps at 250 volts. It does not add GFCI protection, so rely on the outlet or the EVSE for that.
Does it work with a 30-amp RV outlet?
No. A 30-amp RV outlet is a TT-30, which has a different plug shape. This cord only fits NEMA 14-50 outlets and inlets. For a 30-amp RV you need a TT-30 cord or an adapter.
Will a 30-foot run cause voltage drop?
At 50 amps, 30 feet of properly sized copper cable drops little voltage, typically a few volts. Keep the cord fully uncoiled while in use so it does not overheat. Very long runs combined with a long RV cord can add up.
What is in the box?
One 30-foot 50-amp extension cord with a NEMA 14-50 plug on each end. No adapters or carrying bag are included.
When is it cheapest?
RV and EV cords tend to dip during spring camping season sales and Black Friday. Set a price alert and compare against 25-foot 50-amp cords, which usually cost less.
