Is this a good first espresso machine?

Yes, if you want to learn on a low-cost machine with a steam wand. Expect a manual workflow: grind, dose, tamp, pull, then steam. It rewards practice but does not do the work for you.

Does it come with a grinder?

No. It is an espresso machine only, so you need a separate burr grinder. A burr grinder matters more for shot quality than the machine's 20 bar rating.

How many shots can it make at once?

It is a single-group machine, so one or two shots per brew, depending on the basket. For back-to-back milk drinks you steam after each brew, which slows you down at a small gathering.

Is $133.44 a good price?

It is the only new price we have, $133.44 at Shop Simon as of November 8, 2026, so there is no recent range to compare it against. With one seller, watch for restocks and check the price again before buying.

Will it fit under my kitchen cabinets?

It is 11 inches tall, so measure the clearance under your cabinets first. You also need room to lift the water tank and lock in the portafilter.

Does it work with ground coffee or pods?

It uses ground coffee in a portafilter, not pods. You will need a grinder or pre-ground espresso coffee sized for espresso.

Our take on the PlumChef Compact Espresso Machine 20 Bar

The PlumChef Compact Espresso Machine is a small stainless steel espresso maker with a 20 bar pump and a built-in steam wand for frothing milk. It measures about 9.25 inches wide and 11 inches tall and deep, so it fits under most kitchen cabinets. It has no app control; everything runs from the machine itself. The best new price is $133.44 at Shop Simon as of November 8, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to shop around.
