Is 12 quarts too big for a couple?

Yes, for most two-person households. A 12-quart cooker is built for big batches, canning and stock; a 6-quart model is easier to store and cheaper to run for everyday meals.

Can I use it for pressure canning?

Presto builds this cooker for pressure cooking and canning-style loads, but check the manual for the jar sizes and processing times it approves before relying on it for shelf-stable canning.

How does it compare with an Instant Pot?

It offers far more capacity and a stainless pot, but fewer automatic programs and a higher price. An Instant Pot is simpler for small meals; this is better for volume.

Is the pot dishwasher safe?

The stainless steel pot and lid are generally hand-washed or dishwasher-safe depending on the manual; the sealing ring and pressure regulator should be washed by hand and checked for wear.
