Our take on the PRIMROSE 14k Gold Flash Plated Mini Curb Chain & Paperclip Chain Necklace Set Women's

This is a two-piece women's necklace set from PRIMROSE: one mini curb chain and one paperclip chain, both in yellow gold. The metal is brass with 14k gold flash plating, so the gold color is a thin surface layer over a base metal, not solid gold. Each chain is 16 inches with a 2-inch extender and closes with a lobster clasp, which makes the pair easy to layer at slightly different lengths.

Best for
Shoppers who want a layered gold look without solid-gold prices
Gifting on a budget, since the set arrives on a decorative card
Occasional wear and outfits where the chains are swapped or stacked
People who prefer lobster clasps over spring rings
Pros
  • Two chains in one set, so layering is already done for you
  • 14k gold flash plating gives a real yellow-gold tone
  • 2-inch extenders let you adjust the drop
  • Lobster clasps are easy to fasten and secure
  • Decorative card packaging suits gifting
Cons
  • Flash plating over brass is thin and can wear or fade with daily wear
  • Not solid gold, so it will not hold value and may tarnish over time
  • No chain width listed, so the visual weight is hard to judge before buying
  • Brass base can react with skin and turn it green in some wearers
  • 16 inches is short for anyone who prefers a longer single chain

Questions and answers

Is this real 14k gold?
No. The chains are brass with 14k gold flash plating, a very thin gold layer. The 14k refers to the plating karat, not a solid gold body.
How long will the gold color last?
Flash plating is the thinnest common plating, so expect fading sooner with daily wear, sweat and perfume. Taking it off before showers and storing it dry helps it last longer.
What length are the chains?
Each chain is 16 inches with a 2-inch extender, so you can wear them at 16 to 18 inches. That range suits most necks for a layered look.
Can I wear them in the shower or to swim?
Better not. Water, soap and chlorine speed up plating wear and tarnish on the brass underneath.
Is this a good gift?
It works as a low-cost gift for someone who likes layered gold-tone chains, and it comes on a decorative card. Skip it for anyone with a brass or nickel sensitivity.
