Is this set worth $39.99?

For a beginner or casual player, yes. It is a low-cost way to try American mahjong without spending $100 or more. Experienced players who play weekly will likely want larger tiles.

Are the tiles too small?

At about 0.91 by 1.26 inches, they are smaller than standard tournament tiles, which run closer to 1.2 by 1.6 inches. They work fine on a small table but are harder to read across a room.

Is this American mahjong or Chinese mahjong?

USA Mahjong sells American-style sets, which include jokers and suit tiles for the National Mah Jongg League card. Check the box contents to confirm the joker count before buying.

What comes in the box?

The listing describes the tile set only. Confirm whether racks, dice, a wind indicator and a carrying case are included before you buy, since budget sets often sell tiles alone.

When is the best time to buy?

With one store listing it at $39.99 as of November 4, 2026, there is no competing price to wait for. Watch for Amazon seasonal sales, when set prices often drop.
