Is the RadWagon 5 worth it?

For a family doing regular school, grocery or errand trips on pavement, yes. It replaces many short car trips and carries two kids with room to spare. If you only ride solo, a lighter standard e-bike costs less.

How is it different from the RadWagon 4?

The RadWagon 5 moves to 20-inch wheels with wider 3.3-inch tires, adds a torque sensor and hydraulic disc brakes, and keeps the 375 lb capacity. It is the more refined and better-braking version of the same longtail layout.

What is the real range with kids on board?

Expect closer to 20 to 35 miles with two children and hills, not the 60-mile maximum. Range depends on rider weight, cargo, assist level and terrain. Carry the charger for long days.

How big is it, and will it fit in a garage?

It is 76 inches long with a 50.7-inch wheelbase, so it needs about as much floor space as a small motorcycle. Measure your storage area before buying. It stands upright on a kickstand but is awkward to lift.

What comes in the box?

The bike ships mostly assembled with the frame, motor, battery, charger, integrated rear rack and pedals. Child seats, running boards and cargo bags are sold separately. Plan on a shop check of brakes and torque settings after assembly.

When is the best time to buy?

Rad Power Bikes discounts around major sales and model transitions. The current $1,999 at Rad Power Bikes as of November 3 sits near the bottom of its recent $1,799 to $2,199 range, so waiting may not save much.

Our take on the Rad Power Bikes RadWagon 5 Electric Cargo Bike

The RadWagon 5 is Rad Power Bikes' longtail electric cargo bike, built to carry kids or groceries instead of a second car. It has a 750W rear hub motor, a Class 3 top speed of 28 mph, a 375 lb total capacity and a 20-inch wheel setup that keeps the deck low. The aluminum frame and integrated rear rack make it a practical hauler, but at 86 lb it is heavy to lift and store. Its latest best price is $1,999 at Rad Power Bikes as of November 3, near the low end of its recent $1,799 to $2,199 range.
