Our take on the Red 20V Cordless 5 Inch Random Orbital Palm Sander

A battery-powered 5-inch random orbital palm sander sold under the Red brand, aimed at light sanding and finishing work away from an outlet. It has variable speed from 7,000 rpm, a 1,000 mAh 20V battery and a charger in the box. The listed specs are inconsistent: 120 volts, 10 watts and a ½AA battery size do not match a 20V tool, so confirm the real voltage and battery before buying. No current price was provided, so there is no price history to compare against.

Questions and answers

Is this sander worth it for occasional home use?
For light sanding and touch-ups, a cordless palm sander is convenient. For stripping paint or sanding a whole deck, a corded 5-inch random orbital sander gives steadier power for less money.
How long does the battery last?
The listed 1,000 mAh battery is small, so expect short runtimes under load. Buy a spare battery if you plan to sand more than a small piece.
Does it use standard 5-inch sanding discs?
It is listed as a 5-inch random orbital sander, so standard 5-inch hook-and-loop discs should fit. Check the pad attachment type before ordering discs.
Is it really 20V if the listing says 120 volts?
The specs conflict. A 20V cordless tool cannot run on 120 volts, and a ½AA battery cannot supply 20V. Confirm the actual voltage and battery with the seller before buying.
What comes in the box?
The listing says batteries are included, and a charger is implied by the cordless kit format. Sanding discs are not listed, so plan to buy them separately.
When is it cheapest?
No price was provided, so there is no history to judge. Cordless sanders usually drop during holiday sales and end-of-season tool promotions.
