Our take on the Redragon K708AK-RGB Pro Fleact Purple 75% LCD Mechanical Keyboard

The Redragon K708AK-RGB Pro Fleact is a 75% wireless mechanical keyboard with an 81-key layout, a built-in LCD screen, and a gasket-mounted structure for a softer, less rigid typing feel. It uses thick pre-lubed linear Suluo switches that are hot-swappable, so you can change them without soldering. It connects only over 2.4GHz wireless, with no wired mode. Its recent daily price has ranged from $46.99 on October 28 to $36.99 on October 30, so the low end of that range is about $10 below the high.

Pros
  • Hot-swappable Suluo linear switches, pre-lubed for a smooth press
  • Gasket mount softens bottoming out and reduces harsh feel
  • Built-in LCD adds a status display most boards at this price lack
  • 75% layout keeps arrow keys and function row in a small footprint
  • Fade-resistant keycaps and RGB lighting
Cons
  • 2.4GHz wireless only, with no wired USB mode as a fallback
  • No Bluetooth, so one receiver ties it to a single device at a time
  • 0.86 kg is fairly heavy for travel
  • Linear switches may feel mushy to fans of tactile or clicky types

Questions and answers

Is the K708AK-RGB Pro worth it?
At $36.99 at Distritech as of October 30, it is a strong value for a hot-swappable 75% board with a screen. At the $46.99 high from October 28, it competes with boards that also offer Bluetooth or wired modes.
Does it work wired?
No. It is 2.4GHz wireless only, so you need the USB receiver and a charged battery to use it.
Can I change the switches?
Yes. The Suluo linear switches are hot-swappable, so you can pull them and fit compatible 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches without soldering.
What is in the box?
Expect the keyboard, a 2.4GHz USB receiver, a keycap puller and switch puller, and a charging cable. A printed quick-start guide is usually included.
Does it work with a Mac?
It lists Mac OS and Windows XP through 11 plus Android as compatible. Mac users should expect Windows-style legends on the keys and limited remapping.
When is it cheapest?
Its lowest recent daily price was $36.99 on October 30, against $46.99 on October 28. Watch for drops toward the $37 mark rather than buying at the top of the range.
