Our take on the Reeves Liquitex Basics Acrylic Sets 6 x 22ml

A six-tube starter set of Liquitex Basics acrylics, 22ml each, in a mix of core colors. Basics is Liquitex's student line: water-based, heavy-body enough to hold brush marks, and easy to thin with water. At $14.97 at Quill as of November 7, 2026, it is the lowest of the three stores listing it new, so the entry price is about as low as this set gets.

Best forBeginners trying acrylics for the first timeStudents on a tight supply budgetClassroom and workshop kitsAnyone testing colors before buying full tubes
Pros
  • Six 22ml tubes cover the core mixing colors
  • Water-based and cleans up with soap and water
  • Thick enough to hold brush texture on canvas
  • Small tubes limit waste while you learn
  • FSC-labeled packaging
Cons
  • Only six colors, so you mix most shades yourself
  • 22ml tubes run out fast on larger canvases
  • Student-grade pigment load is lower than artist acrylics
  • No white or black beyond what the set includes, depending on the mix

Questions and answers

Is this set good for a beginner?
Yes. Six 22ml tubes of water-based acrylic are enough to learn mixing and brushwork without spending much. Expect to mix secondary colors yourself.
How does Liquitex Basics compare to artist-grade acrylics?
Basics is a student line with lower pigment load, so colors can look less intense and need more coats. It costs far less and is fine for practice and studies.
What colors are in the set?
The set is multicolor and built around core mixing colors, but the exact tube list varies by pack. Check the tube labels before buying if you need a specific color.
Can I thin these paints with water?
Yes. They are water-based, so water thins them and soap and water clean brushes. Heavy thinning weakens the binder, so add water in small amounts.
Is $14.97 a good price?
It is the lowest of the three stores listing this set new as of November 7, 2026, at Quill. For six 22ml tubes that is a typical entry-level price, not a rare markdown.
Where is the Reeves Liquitex Basics Acrylic Sets 6 x 22ml cheapest?
At Quill, for $14.97, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Reeves Liquitex Basics Acrylic Sets 6 x 22ml?
3 stores we checked sell it, including Quill, Staples, Michaels.
