Our take on the Rice-A-Roni Creamy Four Cheese Rice and Vermicelli Mix Cups, Pack of 6

Rice-A-Roni Creamy Four Cheese is a boxed rice and vermicelli mix in single-serve cups, sold here as a 6-pack. Each cup makes one portion of creamy rice with cheddar, Parmesan and Romano, ready in a few minutes in the microwave. It is a pantry staple rather than a premium side, and the 6-cup pack is the convenient format for lunches or quick dinners.

  • 6-pack keeps cost per serving low
  • Long shelf life for pantry stocking
Cons
  • High in sodium, like most boxed rice mixes
  • Creamy texture comes partly from added starch and fat
  • Not a full meal on its own
  • Cups cost more per serving than the family-size box

Questions and answers

How do you prepare the cups?
Add water to the fill line, microwave as directed on the cup, then stir in the seasoning. Most cups finish in about 3 to 4 minutes.
Is this a meal or a side dish?
It is a side dish or snack portion. Add protein or vegetables to make it a meal.
How does it compare to the boxed Rice-A-Roni?
Flavor is similar, but the cups are single-serve and microwave-only, while the box makes a family-size batch on the stove.
Is it vegetarian?
The cheese blend is dairy-based, but check the ingredient list for rennet and other animal-derived enzymes if that matters to you.
How many servings are in the 6-pack?
Six cups, one serving each. That is six single portions, not six family-size batches.
What do buyers say about the Rice-A-Roni Creamy Four Cheese Rice and Vermicelli Mix Cups, Pack of 6?
