Our take on the RockyMounts MonoRail

The RockyMounts MonoRail is a hitch-mounted tray rack for two bikes. It holds bikes by the front wheel with a ratcheting hook, so the frame is never touched, and it fits 20- to 29-inch wheels with tires up to 5.0 inches wide. Each tray is rated to 60 lb, which covers most e-bikes. The rack tilts down 30 degrees for hatch access and folds flat when empty. It ships with a locking anti-wobble hitch pin and a cable lock. Its only recorded price is $532.18, set on October 31, 2026, so there is no recent range to compare against yet.

Best forOwners of road, gravel or fat bikes with mixed wheel sizesE-bike riders who need a 60 lb per-tray limitCars and SUVs with a 1.25-inch or 2-inch hitchPeople who want frame-free loading and a tilting rack for hatch access
Pros
  • Front-wheel hook holds bikes without touching the frame
  • Wide fit: 20- to 29-inch wheels and tires up to 5.0 inches
  • 60 lb per tray handles many e-bikes
  • Tilts 30 degrees for rear hatch access and folds flat when empty

  • 2-inch version expands to three bikes with an add-on tray
Cons
  • Two bikes only unless you buy the add-on
  • No swing-away function, only a 30-degree tilt
  • 23.6 oz listed weight looks wrong for a hitch rack and should be checked
  • No written warranty listed, though the maker advertises a limited lifetime warranty
  • Premium price for a two-bike tray rack

Questions and answers

Is the MonoRail worth it over a cheaper hanging rack?
If you carry a fat bike, an e-bike or a carbon frame, the tray design and 60 lb limit justify the price. For two light road bikes, a basic hanging rack costs far less.
Will it fit my bike?
It takes 20- to 29-inch wheels and tires up to 5.0 inches wide, so road, cruiser and fat bikes all fit. Each tray holds up to 60 lb.
Can I carry three bikes?
Only with the 2-inch model plus the MonoRail Single Bike Add-On, sold separately. The 1.25-inch model stays at two bikes.
Does it block my trunk or hatch?
It tilts down 30 degrees to open rear hatch access, and folds flat against the vehicle when empty. It does not swing away to the side.
What comes in the box?
The rack, a locking anti-wobble hitch pin and a cable lock. The add-on tray and any other extras are separate purchases.
When is it cheapest?
The only recorded price is $532.18 on October 31, 2026. Hitch racks usually dip in fall and winter, so watch the price history before buying in spring.
