Is this easel big enough for a 16x20 canvas?

Yes, it is rated for canvas up to 20 inches tall, so a 16x20 canvas fits. Heavier or thicker canvases may make the light frame wobble.

Does it hold a tablet as well as canvas?

Royal & Langnickel lists tablets among the supported media, and the adjustable ledge holds a tablet at a workable angle. Check that your tablet plus case fits the ledge depth.

Do I need to assemble it?

No. It arrives assembled and folds out for use. The included carry case is for storage and transport.

Is it stable enough for oil painting?

For light brushwork, yes. For heavy paint or palette-knife work, the 1 lb wooden frame tends to shift, so many buyers use it for sketching and display instead.

When is the best time to buy it?

At $13.72 at Walmart as of November 7, 2026, it is already near the low end of its recent range. Art-supply sales around back-to-school season are the usual time for further discounts.

Our take on the Royal & Langnickel 20" Wooden Table Easel

A small solid-wood tripod easel that sits on a table and holds a canvas or tablet up to 20 inches tall. The legs adjust for height, it folds flat, and it ships with a carry case, so it doubles as a display stand and a portable sketching easel. At $13.72 at Walmart as of November 7, 2026, it is a low-cost entry point, and its price sits near the bottom of what it has sold for recently.
