Is the Rubbermaid Configurations worth it?

For a reach-in closet holding shirts and pants, yes. It costs less than custom systems and reconfigures as needs change. Skip it if you hang long dresses or coats, since double-hang leaves only about 10 inches per rod.

How wide a closet does it fit?

The rods expand from 36 to 72 inches, so it covers closets roughly 3 to 6 feet wide. Wider closets need a second kit or extra components.

Can I hang long coats on it?

Only in a single-rod layout. With both rods up, each gets about 10 inches of hang space, which is fine for shirts but not for coats or dresses.

Five shelves, two expandable rods, brackets and mounting hardware. You supply the drill, level and any wall anchors your wall type needs.

The $135.99 at Target as of November 4, 2026 is already near the low end of its recent range. Closet organizers usually dip during spring cleaning and back-to-school sales.

Our take on the Rubbermaid Configurations

The Rubbermaid Configurations is a wall-mounted closet organizer kit with five shelves and two hanging rods that expand from 36 to 72 inches. Shelves and rods are adjustable and modular, so the same kit can be set up as a single-hang or double-hang layout. The double-hang setup leaves about 10 inches of hanging space per rod, which suits shirts and folded pants more than long coats. At $135.99 at Target as of November 4, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent price range across the six stores that list it new.
