Our take on the Samsonite Drive X 20-Inch Carry-On Hardside Spinner Luggage

The Samsonite Drive X 20-inch is a polycarbonate hardside carry-on with 360° dual spinner wheels, an integrated TSA lock, and a RightHeight adjustable handle. It expands 1.5 inches and has a removable wired frame plus WetPak and KompressPak interior organization. At 9.5 lbs it is on the heavy side for a carry-on. Its recent price range is narrow: $105.19 on October 29 to $115.19 on October 28, so the current spread is about $10.

Pros

  • 360° dual spinner wheels roll smoothly in all directions
  • Integrated TSA-approved lock saves a separate padlock
  • RightHeight handle adjusts to several heights
  • Expands 1.5 inches for extra packing room
  • Removable wired frame and machine-friendly lining make cleaning easier
Cons
  • 9.5 lbs empty is heavy for a 20-inch carry-on

  • Expansion zipper adds bulk and can strain the shell when overpacked
  • No USB port or exterior pocket for quick access

What reviewers say

Owners rate it 4.4 out of 5 across 28 ratings. They like the smooth wheels, the built-in lock and the organized interior; the main complaints are weight and limited long-term feedback.

Pros
  • Wheels roll quietly and handle tight airport turns
  • TSA lock is easy to set and feels sturdy
  • Interior pockets keep small items and liquids organized
Cons
  • Heavier than many carry-ons at 9.5 lbs
  • Few reviews, so durability over years is unproven
  • Expansion makes it bulky when full

Questions and answers

Is the Samsonite Drive X 20-inch worth it?
Yes if you want a lockable polycarbonate spinner with good interior organization. At $105.19 to $115.19 it undercuts most hard-shell carry-ons from major brands.
How does it compare with the Samsonite Winfield 2 or Omni?
The Drive X adds a removable wired frame and WetPak pocketing. The Winfield 2 is similar in size but usually heavier and lacks the RightHeight handle.
Does it fit most airline carry-on limits?
At 20 inches tall, 13 wide and 9.5 deep it fits most US domestic carry-on sizers. Check stricter international carriers, which sometimes cap height at 21.5 inches including wheels.
What is in the box?
The suitcase only. No packing cubes, laundry bag or travel lock are included; the lock is built into the shell.
When is it cheapest?
Its recent low was $105.19 on October 29, about $10 below the October 28 high of $115.19. Watch for drops below $110 before buying.
Is the handle adjustable?
Yes. The RightHeight system lets you set the telescoping handle at multiple heights, which helps taller and shorter travelers.
Is the Samsonite Drive X 20-Inch Carry-On Hardside Spinner Luggage at its lowest price?
The lowest price we've seen is $105.19 at Kohl's on October 29.
