Our take on the Samsonite Paralux 21.6" Hardside Global

The Samsonite Paralux 21.6" Hardside Global is a single spinner carry-on with a hard polycarbonate-style shell and four wheels. At 7.2 lb it is on the heavier side for a carry-on, so check airline limits before you fly. It is built for travelers who want a tough, low-fuss hardside case rather than a lightweight one.

Best forFrequent flyers who check their carry-on size against airline limitsTravelers who prefer hard shells over soft fabricBuyers who want a spinner carry-on with a durable exterior

Cons
  • 7.2 lb is heavy for a 21.6-inch carry-on

Questions and answers

Is the Paralux 21.6" worth it over a cheaper hardside?
If you fly often and want a shell and wheels that survive years of handling, the Samsonite build and warranty justify part of the premium. For occasional trips, lighter budget hardsides do the same job for less.
Will it fit in overhead bins?
At 21.6 inches it is sized as a carry-on, but 7.2 lb plus wheels and handle can push it past stricter airline weight limits. Check your carrier's carry-on dimensions and weight before packing.
Is 7.2 lb too heavy for a carry-on?
It is heavier than most 21-inch hardsides, which typically run 5.5 to 6.5 lb. That leaves less of your weight allowance for contents on carriers that weigh bags.
Does it expand?
The Paralux hardside is not listed with an expander, so pack to the closed shell's capacity. Overstuffing a hard shell strains the zipper and frame.
What is in the box?
You get the single 21.6-inch spinner case. Packing cubes, a TSA lock if not built in, and other accessories are not included unless the listing says so.
When is it cheapest?
Samsonite hardsides tend to drop during back-to-school and Black Friday sales and when a new Paralux generation launches. Compare the current price against its recent range before buying.
