Our take on the Scythe Modular Board

The Scythe Modular Board is an official Stonemaier Games expansion for Scythe: a double-sided cardboard board the same size as the original, with rearrangeable hex tiles so the map changes every game. It ships with a rulebook in 11 languages and Automa solo rules. At $24.00 at Boardtopia as of November 5, 2026, it sits well below the base game and is one of the cheaper ways to add replay value.

Best forScythe owners who play often and want fresh mapsSolo players using the AutomaGroups of up to 5 at game nightExperienced players who know the base map too well
Pros
  • Rearranges the map for new strategies each game
  • Double-sided board with two setups
  • Includes Automa solo rules and an 11-language rulebook
  • Same footprint as the original board, so it fits existing tables and storage
  • Modest price for an expansion
Cons
  • Requires the Scythe base game to use
  • Hexes are fairly stationary once placed, so setup is slower than the fixed board
  • Aimed at experienced players; adds little for casual first-timers
  • Only two stores list it new, so price competition is thin
