Our take on the Selkirk Royal Buckingham 13mm Waterproof Laminate Wood Flooring

The Selkirk Royal Buckingham is a 13 mm waterproof laminate plank, 48 by 7.7 inches, with a click-lock joint, beveled edges and a low-gloss embossed wood texture. At 13 mm it is thicker than most laminate, which gives it a more solid feel underfoot and better tolerance for minor subfloor unevenness. It is rated for residential and medium-traffic commercial indoor use and carries FloorScore indoor air certification. No current price was provided, so check the latest best price against its recent range before buying.

Pros
  • Waterproof core suits kitchens, baths and basements
  • 13 mm thickness feels solid and dampens footstep sound
  • Click-lock install needs no glue and few tools
  • Beveled edges and embossed grain read as real wood
  • FloorScore certified for indoor air quality
  • Rated for medium-traffic commercial use
Cons
  • Laminate cannot be sanded or refinished like hardwood
  • Low-gloss embossed finish shows smudges and dust
  • 48-inch planks mean more seams than long-plank formats
  • Waterproof rating covers spills, not standing water or flooding
  • Needs an underlayment and flat subfloor for best results

Questions and answers

Is this floor really waterproof?
Yes. The core and click-lock joint are built to resist water, so spills and damp mopping are fine. Standing water or flooding can still reach the seams and subfloor, so wipe up pooled water promptly.
How does 13 mm compare to standard 8 mm laminate?
The extra thickness gives a firmer feel, less hollow sound and slightly better tolerance for small subfloor dips. It also sits higher, so check door clearances and transitions before installing.
Can I install it over concrete or in a basement?
Yes, as a floating floor over a flat, dry subfloor with a moisture barrier over concrete. Test concrete for moisture first; wet slabs will void most laminate warranties.
What is included in a box?
Boxes are sold by coverage, not by plank count, and the coverage per box was not specified here. Confirm the square footage per carton and add 5 to 10 percent for cuts and waste.
Does it need underlayment?
Yes. Use an underlayment with a built-in vapor barrier over concrete, or an acoustic pad over wood subfloors. Some click-lock laminates have pad attached; check the plank before buying.
When is the best time to buy?
Flooring discounts cluster around holiday sales and end-of-season clearances. Track the price history here and buy when the per-square-foot price dips below its recent range.
