Our take on the Sharky Forged Steel 7-Piece Long Timber Framing Chisel Set

A seven-piece set of forged steel chisels with long timber-framing handles, sold by Sharky Forged Steel Tools. The long handles suit two-handed paring and reaching into deep mortises, the job timber framers buy these for. At $664 at Sharky Forged Steel Tools as of November 7, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no cheaper store to compare against. The 3.1-out-of-5 average from 70 ratings suggests buyers have real reservations, so check the criticism before paying this much.

Best forTimber framers cutting mortises and tenonsCarpenters who want long-handled chisels for two-handed controlBuyers replacing a mixed set with one matched setWorkshop use where edge holding matters more than price
Pros
  • Forged steel blades hold an edge under mallet work better than stamped chisels
  • Long timber handles give two-handed leverage for deep paring
  • Seven pieces cover the common framing widths in one set
  • Matched set keeps handle feel and balance consistent across sizes
Cons
  • 3.1 out of 5 from 70 ratings is a weak average for a premium-priced set
  • $664 is a lot for seven chisels when only one store lists a new price
  • Long handles make fine bench work and tight spaces awkward
  • No second new price to compare, so there is no deal to judge against

Questions and answers

Is the Sharky 7-piece timber framing chisel set worth $664?
Only if you cut mortises and tenons regularly and want long-handled forged chisels in one matched set. The 3.1-out-of-5 average from 70 ratings means many buyers were not fully satisfied at this price.
What sizes are in the set?
The listing confirms seven chisels but does not state the individual widths. Ask the seller for the size list before buying, since framing sets usually run from about 1/4 inch up to 2 inches.
Are these chisels for timber framing or general woodworking?
They are built for timber framing: long handles for two-handed paring and forged blades for mallet work. For fine furniture joinery, standard bench chisels are easier to control.
Can I use a mallet with these chisels?
Forged steel blades are made for mallet striking, but check the handle type. Wooden-handled framing chisels usually take a wooden or dead-blow mallet, not a steel hammer.
Where is the cheapest place to buy the set?
Sharky Forged Steel Tools lists it at $664 as of November 7, 2026, and it is the only new price found. There is no second store price to compare, so watch for a lower listing before buying.
