Is the Sharp Insight Pro Microwave Drawer worth it?

If you are remodeling and want the microwave off the counter, the drawer format is the main draw. It costs much more than a countertop unit with similar power, so the premium buys placement and looks, not extra cooking modes.

What are the cutout and clearance requirements?

It is a 24-inch built-in unit about 23-3/4 inches wide and 15-3/4 inches tall with the handle, and 23 inches deep. It vents from the front, so it can sit below a standard cabinet, island or peninsula. Confirm your cabinet cutout and power location before ordering.

Does it fit a casserole dish or tall cup?

Yes. The 1.2 cu. ft. cavity takes a 4-quart casserole dish and is tall enough for a 20-oz. tall coffee cup.

The microwave drawer and its mounting hardware for built-in installation. Cabinet framing and the 120V outlet are not included and are handled by your installer.

How does it compare with a countertop microwave?

Cooking performance is similar for reheating and defrosting, and both use sensor cooking. The drawer adds built-in placement, a control lock and a cleaner counter, at a much higher price and with installation work.

Built-in appliances usually drop during kitchen-appliance sales and holiday promotions. Check the price history on this page and compare across stores before buying.

Our take on the Sharp Insight Pro Built-In Microwave Drawer

The Sharp Insight Pro is a 24-inch built-in microwave drawer that installs below cabinetry, an island or a peninsula, so it slides out instead of swinging open. It has a 1.2 cu. ft. cavity that fits a 4-quart casserole dish and a 20-oz. tall coffee cup, with sensor cooking, reheat, defrost and a control lock. It runs on 120V at 1.67 kW and comes in stainless steel or black stainless steel. It is a premium built-in appliance, so expect to pay well above a countertop microwave.
