Our take on the Shay Compact Elliptical Machine 12° Incline

The Shay Compact Elliptical is a magnetic-resistance cross-trainer with a 12-degree incline and a 500 lb maximum user weight, sold with a simple time display. It is built for low-impact cardio in a small footprint, and the incline adds a bit of glute and calf work that flat ellipticals miss. At $699.99 at Best Buy as of November 8, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare it against.

Best forHome users with limited floor spaceHeavier riders who need a high weight limitLow-impact cardio for knees and jointsBuyers who want incline work without a treadmill
Pros
  • 500 lb max user weight is high for a compact elliptical
  • Magnetic resistance runs quieter than friction systems

  • Time display keeps the console simple
  • Compact frame fits small rooms
Cons
  • Console shows only time, with no distance, calories or heart rate
  • No preset programs or app connectivity mentioned
  • Short stride on compact units can feel cramped for tall users
  • Single listed retailer limits price comparison

Questions and answers

Is the Shay Compact Elliptical good for a heavy user?
Yes. It is rated to 500 lb, which is well above most compact ellipticals. Check the frame and stride feel at that weight before buying.
What does the display show?
Only time. There is no distance, calorie, heart rate or program readout listed, so plan on a separate timer or watch if you want more data.
How does the 12-degree incline change the workout?
The incline raises the front of the stride path, which shifts effort toward glutes and calves. It adds intensity without changing resistance level.
Is $699.99 a good price?
Only one store, Best Buy, lists it new at $699.99 as of November 8, 2026, so there is no recent price history to judge against. Compare it with other incline ellipticals in the $600 to $800 range.
Will it fit in a small apartment?
It is marketed as compact, so it suits tight spaces better than full-size ellipticals. Measure your floor area and ceiling clearance for the incline before ordering.
Where is the Shay Compact Elliptical Machine 12° Incline cheapest?
At Best Buy, for $699.99, as of our latest check.
