Our take on the Simon Love It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time (CD)

It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time is the 2015 debut solo album by Simon Love, former frontman of Welsh indie-pop band The Loves. It is a short, hook-heavy set of wry, bookish power pop with brass and keyboards, closer to Elvis Costello and Squeeze than to modern indie. The CD is the standard physical edition; no price was provided for this listing, so check the current store price against other sellers before buying.

Questions and answers

Is this Simon Love's first solo album?
Yes. It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time is his 2015 solo debut after fronting The Loves. Later solo records build on the same witty power-pop style.
What does it sound like?
Indie power pop with horns, keyboards and dry, storytelling vocals. Think Elvis Costello, Squeeze and The Divine Comedy more than guitar-heavy indie rock.
Is it available on vinyl?
This listing is the CD edition. Vinyl pressings of the album exist from small labels, but check the format on each listing before ordering.
How many tracks are on the CD?
The album runs about a dozen tracks and around 40 minutes. Check the store listing for the exact tracklist, since editions can vary.
Is it worth buying if I don't know The Loves?
Yes, if you like clever, hook-driven British pop. Start with a stream of a few tracks first; the appeal is in the lyrics and choruses rather than big production.
