Our take on the Sleep Number DualTemp Fit Mattress Topper

The Sleep Number DualTemp Fit is an active cooling and warming mattress topper sold in half-bed sizes, so each sleeper sets their own temperature. It pairs a memory foam layer with Sleep Number's DualTemp airflow system, which pushes cooled or heated air through the pad. Half-Queen and Half-King sizes cover one side of a shared bed; the half-Cal King length is 82.5 inches. It is a premium add-on aimed at hot sleepers and couples who disagree on temperature, and it is priced well above passive cooling pads.

Pros
  • Active cooling and heating, not passive gel foam
  • Half sizes let each partner set a different temperature
  • Memory foam adds pressure relief on top of the mattress
  • Fits Sleep Number beds and many standard mattresses
Cons
  • Expensive compared with passive cooling toppers
  • Needs power and airflow hardware at the bedside
  • Half sizes mean buying two units for a full bed
  • Adds height, so deep-pocket sheets may be needed

Questions and answers

Is the DualTemp Fit worth the price?
It is the rare topper that actively cools or warms each side, so it can be worth it for couples with different temperature needs. If you only run warm occasionally, a passive cooling pad costs far less.
Do I need a Sleep Number bed for it?
No. It is designed to work with Sleep Number beds but can sit on other mattresses. Check the half-size dimensions against your mattress before buying.
Why is it sold in half sizes?
Each half has its own temperature control, so two halves let partners set different temperatures. A queen or king bed needs two units for full coverage.
Does it make noise?
The airflow system uses a fan and blower, so some noise is expected. Owners often describe it as a low hum rather than silence.
Will my sheets still fit?
The topper adds height, so standard sheets may be tight. Deep-pocket sheets are the safer choice.
When is it cheapest?
Sleep Number discounts it most around major holiday sales and when bundled with a mattress. Watch the price history rather than buying at full price.
