Is the Slumber Firm good for side sleepers?

Mostly no. The firm surface and thin gel foam layers leave little cushioning for shoulders and hips, so side sleepers often find it too hard.

Does it need a box spring?

No. It works on a platform bed, slatted frame or adjustable base. A box spring is optional and mainly adds height.

How long does it take to expand after unboxing?

It is a mattress in a box and typically reaches full shape within a day. Minor odors from the foam usually fade within a few days.

Is $279.99 a good price for this mattress?

It is the best new price among the three stores listing it, at Mattress Firm as of November 8, 2026. At that level it is a low-cost firm twin XL, though the 3.1 rating reflects durability complaints.

What is the difference between the Slumber Firm and a plush model?

The Firm uses a tight top over gel and comfort foam for a stable, supportive feel. A plush version adds softer foam for more sink and pressure relief.
