Is the SMEG fully automatic espresso machine worth it?

It suits buyers who want a retro-styled bean-to-cup machine with a milk frother and no pods. If grind consistency and programmability matter more than looks, a burr-grinder machine at the same price is the stronger pick.

Does it use capsules or pods?

No. It grinds whole beans in a built-in grinder and brews bean-to-cup, so you buy beans rather than pods.

How many drinks can it make?

It offers espresso and six coffee drinks plus Americano and hot water for tea, with three coffee strengths. Milk drinks rely on the frother.

How much counter space does it need?

It is 18 cm wide, 33.6 cm tall and 43.3 cm deep. The depth is the constraint, so leave clearance behind it for the tank and cup area.

What comes in the box?

The machine, a water hardness test strip and a cleaning brush. Beans, milk and descaling supplies are not included.

SMEG machines tend to drop during Black Friday and end-of-season kitchen sales. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
