Is the Snow Joe SJ627E worth it?

For short driveways and light to moderate snow, yes. At $159 at Distritech as of November 3 it costs far less than a gas blower and needs no fuel or tune-ups. If you regularly get wet snow over 8 inches, a two-stage gas or battery model is a better fit.

How does it compare with a gas snow blower?

It is quieter, lighter and cheaper to own, but it has less power and is tethered to a cord. Gas two-stage blowers clear deep, wet snow and drifts that will stall the SJ627E.

What extension cord does it need?

Use a 12- or 14-gauge outdoor-rated extension cord rated for at least 15 amps, and keep it as short as practical. A thin household cord will cause voltage drop and can overheat.

How much snow can it handle?

It works best on snowfall up to about 6 to 8 inches of light, dry snow. Wet snow or drifts deeper than that will slow it or clog the auger.

The blower, chute and handle components, and an owner's manual. An extension cord is not included, so budget for a heavy-gauge outdoor cord.

Corded snow blowers tend to dip in late fall and after the holidays, and again in early spring as stores clear stock. Prices around $130 to $150 are common at those times.

Our take on the Snow Joe SJ627E 22 in 15-amp corded

The Snow Joe SJ627E is a corded electric snow blower with a 22-inch clearing width and a 15-amp motor. It throws snow up to 25 feet through a 180-degree adjustable chute and runs on a standard household outlet, so there is no gas, oil or pull-start. It suits light to moderate driveways and walkways where an extension cord can reach. The latest best price is $159 at Distritech as of November 3; corded Snow Joe models typically sell between about $130 and $200, so that sits in the lower-middle of its recent range.
