Our take on the Sonoro Kate Washable Oriental Vintage Area Rug, 8' x 10', Gray/Blue

The Sonoro Kate is an 8' x 10' machine-made area rug in a gray and blue oriental pattern with a 7 mm pile. Its main draw is that it is machine washable, with a thermoplastic elastomer backing that helps it stay put. It suits living rooms and dining areas where spills and pets are a concern. It is a budget-friendly washable rug, not a hand-knotted heirloom.

Questions and answers

Is the Sonoro Kate rug really machine washable?
Yes. The label lists it as machine washable. An 8' x 10' rug usually needs a commercial-size washer or a laundromat, so check your machine's drum first.
Will it work on hardwood floors without a pad?
The thermoplastic elastomer backing gives some grip, so a pad is optional. A thin pad still helps with comfort and keeps the rug from sliding on smooth floors.
Is 7 mm pile low enough for doors and dining chairs?
Yes. At 7 mm it is a low-pile rug, so most doors clear it and dining chairs slide over it without much resistance.
How does it compare with a wool or hand-knotted rug?
It is thinner and cheaper than wool or hand-knotted rugs, and it trades plushness for washability. Expect a printed machine-made look rather than a handcrafted one.
What sizes does the Sonoro Kate come in?
This listing is the 8' x 10' rectangle. Other sizes are sold separately, so confirm the size on the listing before buying.
When is the best time to buy it?
Washable rugs often drop during seasonal home sales and back-to-school events. Check the price history before buying so you know whether the current price is near its low.
What do buyers say about the Sonoro Kate Washable Oriental Vintage Area Rug, 8' x 10', Gray/Blue?
