Our take on the Sony BDP-S6700 4K Upscaling 3D Blu-ray Player

The Sony BDP-S6700 is a 1080p Blu-ray player that upscales discs to near-4K and plays 3D Blu-rays. It streams Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube, and connects over Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, USB and HDMI. It also works as a DLNA client for files on your home network. The best new price is $450.99 at Newegg.com as of November 4, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so it sells well above the $100-$150 it typically fetched when widely stocked.

Pros
  • Upscales DVDs and Blu-rays to near-4K on a 4K TV
  • Plays 3D Blu-rays, which most current players skip
  • Bluetooth lets you send audio to wireless headphones or speakers
  • Wi-Fi, Ethernet, USB and DLNA cover streaming and local files
  • Compact, simple setup with HDMI-CEC control from the TV remote
Cons
  • No Dolby Vision or HDR10 output; upscaling is not true 4K
  • No analog audio outputs, so older receivers need HDMI
  • Streaming apps are dated and slower than a modern TV or stick
  • Scarce new stock pushes the price far above its original level

Questions and answers

Is the 4K upscaling real 4K?
No. It takes 1080p Blu-rays and DVDs and upscales them to a 4K signal for your TV. The picture is sharper than 1080p but not native 4K, and there is no HDR.
Does it play 3D Blu-rays?
Yes. It is 3D-ready, so it works with a 3D-capable TV and active 3D glasses. Most current players no longer support 3D.
Can I use Bluetooth headphones with it?
Yes. Bluetooth lets you pair wireless headphones or a speaker, which helps for late-night viewing. You can also send audio over HDMI as usual.
Is it worth $450.99?
That is high for this player. It sold for far less when widely available, and at $450.99 a 4K player with HDR or a streaming stick plus a basic Blu-ray player costs less and does more.
What is in the box?
The player, a remote, batteries, an HDMI cable in most bundles and a quick start guide. Check the listing, since some sellers ship without the HDMI cable.
When is it cheapest?
Prices on discontinued players swing with stock. Watch for restocks and compare against used or refurbished units, which often sell for a fraction of the new price.
Where is the Sony BDP-S6700 4K Upscaling 3D Blu-ray Player cheapest?
At Newegg.com, for $450.99, as of our latest check.
