Our take on the Sony BRAVIA Theater Rear 9 Wireless Surround Speakers

The BRAVIA Theater Rear 9 is Sony's add-on pair of wireless rear surround speakers for its BRAVIA Theater soundbars and home theater systems. Each speaker carries up to 180 W and supports Dolby Atmos, so the pair turns a front-only setup into a true surround stage with sound behind and above you. They connect over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and can be wall-mounted, at about 11.3 inches tall and 6 inches wide each. At $548 at Best Buy as of November 8, 2026, the pair sits near the top of its recent price range across 12 stores, so it is not a discount moment.

Best forOwners of a compatible Sony BRAVIA Theater soundbar or systemRooms where the couch sits against the wall and rears need mountingDolby Atmos fans who want overhead and behind-the-head effectsPeople who want rear channels without running speaker cable
Pros
  • True wireless rears: no speaker cable to the front of the room
  • Dolby Atmos support adds height and rear effects to a Sony soundbar setup
  • 180 W per speaker is plenty for most living rooms
  • Wall-mount design keeps floor space clear
  • Pairs with Sony's system over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Cons
  • Only works as an add-on to a compatible Sony BRAVIA Theater system
  • $548 is a lot for two surround speakers
  • Needs AC power at each rear position anyway
  • Sony's room calibration matters; placement still affects the result
