Is the Sony SRS-XV800 worth it?

If you need a very loud speaker for parties, karaoke or a big TV room, yes. For casual indoor listening, a smaller and cheaper speaker will do the job.

How does it compare with the SRS-XV900?

The XV900 is larger and louder with more drivers, while the XV800 is easier to move and costs less. Choose the XV800 unless you need maximum output for very large spaces.

How is the battery life?

Sony rates it for long party sessions, but loud volume and bass-heavy music drain it faster. Expect noticeably shorter runtime at high volume outdoors.

Can I connect a guitar or microphone?

Yes. It has a guitar input and karaoke support, so you can plug in an instrument and sing along with backing tracks.

Does it work with a TV?

Yes, via Bluetooth with TV Sound Booster, which adds punch to movie and show audio. It is not a replacement for a full surround system.

Party speakers like this usually drop during holiday sales and end-of-summer promotions. Its latest best price is already near the low end of its recent range, so waiting may not save much.

Our take on the Sony SRS-XV800

The Sony SRS-XV800 is a large portable party speaker with 180 W max output (100 W RMS), dual 6.75-inch woofers and three tweeters, plus two rear tweeters for a wider spread. It adds a guitar input, karaoke and TV Sound Booster, is water resistant, and has Bluetooth plus Chromecast streaming but no Wi-Fi or voice assistant. At 18.5 kg and 720 mm tall it is a carry-two-hands or wheel-it-around speaker, not a backpack unit. Its latest best price sits near the low end of its recent range, making it a reasonable time to buy.
