The Sony VPL-HW40ES is a 1080p home theater projector built on Sony's SXRD (LCoS) panels, with 1,700 ANSI lumens, a 200W lamp and a 1.6x manual zoom lens. Its main draw is strong native contrast and accurate BT.709 color for the price, plus generous vertical and horizontal lens shift that makes ceiling or shelf mounting easy. It has no built-in speaker or audio output, so plan on a separate sound system. It is a discontinued model, so current listings are typically used or refurbished units rather than new stock.
Lowest price we've seen: $1,500.00 on Nov 2 at Crawfords Superstore. Tracked across 1 store since Nov 2.
Owners rate it highly as a value 1080p projector, praising its contrast, color and lens shift. Common complaints are modest brightness and lamp cost over time.
