Is the WF-1000XM4 still worth buying?

Yes if you want strong noise cancelling at a discount. The WF-1000XM5 is smaller and cancels more noise, so buy that instead if the price gap is small.

How does it compare with the WF-1000XM5?

The XM5 has a smaller, lighter design, better ANC and improved call mics. The XM4 keeps most of the sound quality and often costs much less.

How long does the battery last?

Sony rates 8 hours per charge with noise cancelling on and 24 hours total with the case. Real-world use is close to that, with a bit less at high volume.

Does it work with iPhone?

Yes, but LDAC is Android-only, so iPhone users get AAC over Bluetooth. Noise cancelling, Speak-to-Chat and the Sony Headphones Connect app all work on iOS.

The earbuds, charging case, USB-C cable and three sizes of Noise Isolation Earbud Tips. No wall charger is included.

Our take on the Sony WF-1000XM4

The Sony WF-1000XM4 is Sony's flagship true wireless earbud, built around the Integrated Processor V1 and new noise-sensing mics for top-tier active noise cancellation. It supports Hi-Res Audio Wireless over LDAC, DSEE Extreme upscaling, Speak-to-Chat and IPX4 splash resistance, with up to 8 hours per charge and 24 hours total with the case. It is a few generations old now, so it sells well below its launch price and competes closely with the WF-1000XM5.
