Questions and answers

Is the Staedtler 777 worth it?
For a 0.5 mm HB pencil for everyday writing, yes. It adds a retractable tip, a break-preventing lead guide and a refillable eraser that basic mechanical pencils lack.
How does the twist mechanism work?
You twist the barrel to push lead forward. It is steadier than a click but slower when you need a lot of lead at once.
What lead and eraser refills does it take?
It uses 0.5 mm HB graphite leads and Staedtler-compatible refill erasers. The box includes 10 leads and one extra-large eraser.
Is the eraser latex-free?
Yes. The eraser is latex-free and PVC-free, which helps shoppers with latex sensitivity.
Does the tip retract?
Yes. The extra-fine tip retracts into the barrel, so it is less likely to poke through a pocket or bag.
When is the best time to buy it?
Back-to-school season and major sales events are when prices usually dip. Check the price history before buying.
