Our take on the STARLINK Mini Kit AC Dual Band Wi-Fi System

The Starlink Mini is a compact satellite internet kit with the dish and Wi-Fi router built into one unit. It is designed for travel, camping and remote sites where cable and fiber do not reach, running on DC power and fitting in a backpack. Speeds are modest by home broadband standards, with downloads over 100 Mbps and low latency. It is a niche product for off-grid connectivity rather than a replacement for a normal home router.

Questions and answers

Is the Starlink Mini worth it?
It is worth it if you need internet where nothing else works, such as an RV, a remote cabin or a job site. For a home that already has cable or fiber, a standard router is cheaper and faster.
How fast is the Starlink Mini?
Starlink advertises downloads over 100 Mbps with low latency. Real speeds vary with sky view, weather and network load, and uploads are much slower than the 3 Gbps figure some listings show.
Does the Starlink Mini need a separate router?
No. The Wi-Fi router is built in, and the kit includes a kickstand, pipe adapter, power cable and power supply. You can add a mesh node or wired device through the single Ethernet port.
Can I use the Starlink Mini in a car or RV?
Yes. It runs on DC power and is small enough to move between vehicles. You still need a clear view of the sky and an active service plan.
What is in the Starlink Mini box?
The kit includes the Mini unit with integrated router, a kickstand, a pipe adapter, a power cable and a power supply.
When is the Starlink Mini cheapest?
Hardware prices move with promotions and regional offers, so compare current store prices and check the price history before buying. The service plan is billed separately and is not part of the hardware price.
