Our take on the Sugift 400/70 Refractor Telescope

The Sugift 400/70 is a small refractor telescope with a 70 mm aperture and 400 mm focal length, giving a fast f/5.7 ratio. It ships with a finderscope and a Barlow lens, and the kit weighs about 4 lb, so it is easy to carry outside. The best new price is $74.99 at Target as of November 4, 2026, and only one store lists it new, so there is little price competition to wait for.

  • Light at about 4 lb and easy to move

  • Low entry price at $74.99
Cons

Questions and answers

Is the Sugift 400/70 worth it for a beginner?
Yes, if you want a low-cost scope to learn on. The 70 mm aperture and wide field make the Moon and bright planets easy to find, and $74.99 at Target as of November 4, 2026 is a low entry point.
What can I actually see with a 70 mm refractor?
Craters and seas on the Moon, Jupiter's moons, Saturn's rings at low power, and bright star clusters. Deep-sky objects like galaxies and nebulae will look faint and small.
Does the 120x magnification mean it zooms to 120x?
No. Magnification comes from the eyepiece and Barlow combination, and 120x is the top figure quoted. On a 70 mm lens that is close to the useful limit, so views at 120x will be dimmer and softer.
What comes in the box?
The telescope, a finderscope, a Barlow lens and the tripod, based on the listed specs. Check the box contents at Target before buying, since eyepieces are not listed.
Is it good for kids?
Yes. At about 4 lb it is light enough for older children to carry, and the wide field makes targets easier to find. Younger kids will need help aiming and focusing.
When is the best time to buy it?
Only one store lists it new, so discounts are unlikely. Watch for Target sales around the holidays, and compare against the price of $74.99 as of November 4, 2026.
Where is the Sugift 400/70 Refractor Telescope cheapest?
At Target, for $74.99, as of our latest check.
What do buyers say about the Sugift 400/70 Refractor Telescope?
Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 119 ratings.
