Our take on the Sunex Premium Impact Wrench

The Sunex Premium Impact Wrench is a 1/2-inch square-drive pneumatic impact wrench rated at 900 ft-lbs of torque and 8,000 RPM, built for heavy automotive work like lug removal and spindle nuts. It uses a pistol grip, an alloy steel body and adjustable torque control, and weighs 5.9 lbs. Its best new price is $99.95 at Jersey Discount Tool as of November 3, 2026, with four stores listing it new. That is a low price for a 900 ft-lb air wrench, so it sits near the bottom of what this class of tool typically costs.

Best forHome mechanics with a capable air compressorTire and wheel work and lug removalAutomotive suspension and spindle nut jobsBuyers who want high torque without a premium tool-truck price
Pros
  • 900 ft-lbs of torque handles stubborn lug nuts and suspension bolts
  • Adjustable torque control lets you dial power down for smaller fasteners
  • 8,000 RPM free speed for fast rundown
  • Alloy steel body and pistol grip suit heavy shop use
  • Reverse bias technology is aimed at equal power in reverse
Cons
  • Pneumatic only, so it needs a compressor with adequate CFM and pressure
  • 5.9 lbs is heavy for overhead or extended use
  • 0.375 HP motor is modest for a tool rated this high, so real torque depends on air supply
  • No battery option, unlike cordless rivals

Questions and answers

Is the Sunex Premium Impact Wrench worth it?
At $99.95 at Jersey Discount Tool as of November 3, 2026, it is a low-cost way to get 900 ft-lbs of air-powered torque. It is worth it if you already own a compressor that can feed it; otherwise budget for air supply first.
How does it compare with cordless impact wrenches?
Cordless 1/2-inch wrenches cost far more but need no compressor and are easier to carry. This Sunex is cheaper and lighter to run all day if you have shop air, but it is tethered to a hose.
What compressor do I need for it?
It is a pneumatic tool rated at 900 ft-lbs and 8,000 RPM, so it needs a compressor with enough CFM at working pressure to sustain that output. A small pancake compressor will run it but will not deliver full torque.
How heavy and how big is it?
It weighs 5.9 lbs and measures 7.4 inches long, 8 inches wide and 3.25 inches high. That is on the heavy side for a 1/2-inch impact, so expect some fatigue during long overhead work.
What is in the box?
The listing covers the wrench itself with its 1/2-inch square drive; sockets and air fittings are typically sold separately. Check the store listing for included accessories before ordering.
When is it cheapest?
The best new price seen is $99.95 at Jersey Discount Tool as of November 3, 2026, across four stores. Air tool prices move with sales, so compare the other three stores before buying.
