Our take on the Tascam DR-05 Battery Cover

This is the replacement battery door for the Tascam DR-05 handheld recorder, the sliding cover that holds the two AA cells in place. It is a small plastic part, not a recorder, and it exists so a cracked or lost door does not sideline a working unit. The best new price is $7.99 at eBay as of November 4, 2026, and only two stores list it new, so stock is thin and prices vary little. For a part this cheap, buying a spare is reasonable if you rely on the recorder.

Best forDR-05 owners with a cracked or missing battery doorBuying a spare before a field recording tripReviving a used DR-05 bought without its cover
Pros
  • Genuine Tascam part, so fit is correct
  • Cheap fix versus replacing a working recorder
  • Keeps the AA cells seated and the recorder usable
  • Small and light to ship
Cons
  • Only two stores list it new, so availability is limited
  • No price competition at this volume
  • Does nothing for the recorder's other wear parts
  • Easy to lose again if it is not latched fully

Questions and answers

Will this cover fit my DR-05?
It is the cover for the Tascam DR-05, which runs on two AA batteries. Check your model number before ordering, since the DR-05X and other Tascam recorders use different doors.
Is $7.99 a good price for a battery cover?
It is in line with what this part sells for. With only two stores listing it new as of November 4, 2026, there is little room to shop around, so buy when you find it in stock.
Does the cover come with batteries?
No. It is the door only. The DR-05 takes two AA cells, alkaline or NiMH rechargeable.
Can I use rechargeable batteries with the DR-05?
Yes. The recorder accepts AA NiMH rechargeables and can charge them over USB, and Tascam rates battery life at up to 17.5 hours.
When is this part cheapest?
There is no real sale cycle on a part this small. Watch the two listings and buy when one is in stock, since the difference between them is a dollar or two at most.
Where is the Tascam DR-05 Battery Cover cheapest?
At eBay, for $49.99, as of our latest check.
Where can I buy the Tascam DR-05 Battery Cover?
2 stores we checked sell it, including eBay, Walmart.
