Is the Mega Cyborg Hand worth it?

For a kid who likes building and mechanics, yes. It is a real working hydraulic hand for under $20 at the best price, and the build itself is the main event.

Does it need batteries?

No. It runs on water-filled piston tubes and air pressure, so there is nothing to charge or replace.

The box says 7 and up. Ages 7 to 9 will likely need an adult for assembly; older kids can build it alone.

Will it fit my child's hand?

Yes. The hand adjusts to fit virtually all hand sizes, from kids to adults.

Over 200 plastic pieces, piston tubes and a 40-page full-color manual. Water is the only thing you add.

It is a popular gift, so prices tend to dip outside the holiday season. The best new price was $19.99 at eBay as of November 3, 2026.

Our take on the Thames & Kosmos Mega Cyborg Hand STEM Experiment Kit

The Mega Cyborg Hand is a build-it-yourself hydraulic hand kit from Thames & Kosmos. Kids snap together 203 plastic parts, fill the piston tubes with water, and get a wearable hand that grips and moves through air and water pressure, no batteries or motors. It adjusts to fit most hand sizes, so siblings and adults can all wear it. At $19.99 at eBay as of November 3, 2026, it sits at the low end of its recent range and is a cheap way into a real mechanical build.
