Our take on the The Action Bible

The Action Bible is Sergio Cariello's comic-book retelling of the Bible, first published in 2010 and reissued in a 2020 hardcover edition from Gospel Light. It presents roughly 200 Bible stories in full-color sequential art, aimed at readers who find a plain text Bible slow going. The best new price is $6.53 at Alibris as of November 7, 2026, well below what a 750-plus-page hardcover usually costs.

Pros
  • Full-color comic art on nearly every page keeps reluctant readers moving
  • Covers about 200 stories from Genesis to Revelation in one volume
  • Hardcover binding holds up to repeated handling by kids
  • Available in English and German editions
  • Large page count makes the low price strong value
Cons
  • Stories are condensed, so detail and nuance are lost
  • Art style is dramatic and superhero-like, which some parents dislike
  • Not a study Bible: no commentary, maps or cross-references
  • Some editions have thin pages that show bleed-through
