Our take on the Toro Recycler 22 in. 60V Max Cordless Self-Propelled Lawn Mower

The Toro Recycler 22 in. 60V Max is a battery-powered walk-behind mower with rear-wheel drive and Toro's Personal Pace auto-drive, which matches ground speed to your walking pace. It cuts a 22-inch swath, mulches, bags, and can side-discharge with an optional kit, and it ships with one 6.0 Ah 60V battery rated for up to half an acre. At 85 lbs it is heavier than most gas 22-inch mowers, so lifting it into a truck bed takes effort.

Questions and answers

Is the Toro 60V Recycler worth it over a gas mower?
For lawns up to about half an acre it replaces a gas mower with no fuel, oil changes or pull starts. You pay more upfront, but the included 6.0 Ah battery and brushless motor keep running costs low.
How long does the battery last per charge?
Toro rates the included 6.0 Ah battery for up to half an acre. Expect less in tall, wet or thick grass, and keep a second battery if your lot is close to that limit.
Does it come with a bag and side discharge chute?
It includes the bagging setup and mulching plug. The side discharge chute is optional and sold separately.
How does Personal Pace work?
The handlebar senses how fast you walk and the rear-wheel drive matches your pace, so you set speed by walking rather than by a lever. It handles slopes better than front-wheel-drive mowers.
What cutting heights can I set?
Four-point adjustment ranges from 1 inch to 4 inches, which covers a close summer cut and a taller setting for spring growth.
When is the best time to buy it?
Mower prices usually drop at the end of the mowing season and around spring promotions. Check the price history before buying outside those windows.
