Our take on the Tough Tech Coatings Tough Roof RV Kit Permanent Waterproofing Kit

The Tough Tech Coatings Tough Roof RV Kit is a 3-gallon silicone-rubber roof coating system for RVs, sold with caulk for sealing seams and penetrations. The white coating is meant as a permanent waterproofing layer over RV roof membranes. It is a DIY kit aimed at owners who want to reseal a leaking or chalky roof themselves rather than pay a shop. No current price was provided, so check the latest price against its recent range before buying.

Pros
  • Silicone-rubber formula flexes with the roof and resists ponding water
  • White finish reflects sun and helps keep the interior cooler
  • Includes caulk for seams, vents and penetrations
  • 3 gallons covers a typical RV roof in one coat system
  • One kit covers coating and sealing in a single purchase
Cons
  • Silicone coatings are slippery when wet and can be hard to walk on
  • Most silicone roof coatings cannot be overcoated with other products later
  • Surface prep and cleaning are critical or the coating will peel
  • Coverage depends on roof size and number of coats
  • No price or store given here, so value is hard to judge

Questions and answers

Is the Tough Roof RV Kit worth it?
For an RV owner with a leaking or chalky roof, a coating kit can be far cheaper than a roof replacement. It is worth it if you can do the prep work and the roof membrane is still sound.
How much roof does 3 gallons cover?
Coverage depends on roof size and coats. A 3-gallon kit is generally sized for a typical Class C or smaller travel trailer roof; measure your roof and check the label coverage rate before buying.
Can I apply it over an EPDM or TPO roof?
Silicone-rubber coatings are commonly used over EPDM and similar membranes, but check the manufacturer's compatibility list for your specific roof material first.
Does the kit include caulk?
Yes. The kit includes caulk for sealing seams, vents and other penetrations before or alongside the coating.
When is the best time to buy?
Roof coating kits often see discounts in spring and early summer, before camping season. Compare the current price with its recent range before buying.
