Is the Tapo C120 worth it at $35.99?

Yes, if you have an outlet near where you want the camera. That price at B&H Photo-Video-Audio as of November 5, 2026 buys 2K video, weatherproofing and free AI detection, which usually costs more.

Does the C120 need a subscription?

No. Person, pet and vehicle detection and notifications are free. You only need the Tapo app and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection.

Can the C120 run on battery?

No. It runs only on the included USB power adapter and 9.8 ft cord, so plan placement around an outlet.

Does it record locally without the cloud?

The C120 has no microSD slot. Continuous and event recording go to Tapo Care cloud storage, which is a paid plan, so check that cost before buying.

How is it different from the C110?
