Our take on the TrailFX Tonneau Cover

The TrailFX Tonneau Cover is a hard tri-fold truck bed cover made of fiberglass over an aluminum frame, finished in gloss black. It mounts with clamps and no drilling, folds open in sections, and locks through the tailgate handle. At $699.99 at AutoZone as of November 6, 2026, it is the only new price we have for it, so there is no recent range to compare against.

Best forOwners who want hard-cover cargo security without drillingTrucks used for hauling and weather protectionBuyers who fold the cover open often for tall loadsShoppers wanting a flush, factory-style look
Pros
  • Hard fiberglass top resists cuts better than soft vinyl
  • Tri-fold design opens in stages for partial or full bed access
  • Clamp-on install with hardware included, about an hour, no drilling
  • Locks via the tailgate handle for covered cargo security
  • Flush gloss black finish looks close to factory
Cons
  • Fiberglass can crack or chip under heavy impact
  • Folded panels block part of the bed and rear view
  • Tailgate-handle lock only secures the cover when the tailgate is closed
  • Gloss black shows dust, scratches and water spots
  • Fit depends on getting the right bed length for your truck

Questions and answers

Does it fit my truck?
It is made for specific truck bed lengths, so match the cover to your cab and bed size before ordering. The same cover does not fit every bed.
Is drilling required?
No. It clamps to the bed rails with included hardware and takes about an hour to install.
Can I lock it?
Yes. It locks through the tailgate handle, so cargo is secure only while the tailgate is closed and locked.
Can I drive with it partly open?
It folds in sections, so you can open part of the bed for taller loads. Secure the folded panels with the straps before driving.
Is it waterproof?
It is weather resistant and sheds rain, but hard folding covers can still let some water in at the seams and tailgate. Expect dampness in heavy storms, not a sealed dry box.
Is $699.99 a good price?
AutoZone lists it at $699.99 as of November 6, 2026, and it is the only new price we have. Hard fiberglass tri-folds commonly run $600 to $1,000, so this sits in the middle of that band.
Where is the TrailFX Tonneau Cover cheapest?
At AutoZone, for $699.99, as of our latest check.
