Our take on the U-Haul Wardrobe Box

The U-Haul Wardrobe Box is a tall cardboard moving box with a built-in hanging bar, so clothes go from closet to truck to closet without folding. It measures 20 x 20 x 34 inches and holds 9.72 cubic feet, enough for a short run of hanging garments plus shoes or folded items at the bottom. It is sold as a single box, not a bundle. At $69.95 at Amazon as of November 5, 2026, it is priced well above what a single wardrobe box typically costs, so it only makes sense if you need one box in a hurry.

Best forMovers who want clothes to stay on hangersShort moves and closet clean-outsStoring off-season suits and dressesPeople buying a single box, not a bundle
Pros
  • Built-in hanging bar keeps clothes wrinkle-free
  • Tall 34-inch height fits dresses and long coats
  • 9.72 cu ft gives room for shoes and folded items below the hanging section
  • Sturdy double-wall-style cardboard typical of U-Haul boxes
  • Reusable for seasonal storage after the move
Cons
  • Sold as one box, so a full closet needs several
  • Bulky and awkward to carry when loaded
  • No lid handle or cutout grips on the standard version
  • At $69.95 for one box, far pricier than buying wardrobe boxes in multi-packs

Questions and answers

Is one box enough for a closet?
No. One box holds roughly a short run of hanging clothes, about what fits on a couple feet of closet rod. A full closet usually needs three to five boxes.
What are the dimensions?
20 x 20 x 34 inches, with 9.72 cubic feet of space. The 34-inch height fits most dresses and coats.
Does it come with a lid?
It is a standard wardrobe box with a top closure and a hanging bar. Check the listing for whether a lid is included in the single-box sale.
Can I reuse it for storage?
Yes. Many owners keep them for off-season clothes, though the cardboard softens with repeated moves.
Is $69.95 a good price?
No. That is high for a single wardrobe box; multi-packs from moving suppliers usually cost less per box. Buy this one only if you need a single box quickly.
Where is the U-Haul Wardrobe Box cheapest?
At Amazon, for $69.95, as of our latest check.
