Our take on the Unwritten Cubic Zirconia Cross Square Design Twist Chain Necklace

This is a gold-tone brass chain necklace from Unwritten with a square cross pendant set with cubic zirconia, hung on a twisted rope-style chain. It is a low-cost fashion piece rather than fine jewelry, so the plating and stones are the main things to weigh. At $12.25 at Macy's as of November 7, 2026, it is the only new price listed, so there is no recent range to compare against.

Best forGift for a religious occasion or baptismEveryday layering piece on a budgetTeens and young adults starting a jewelry collectionShoppers who want a cross necklace without paying fine-jewelry prices
Pros
  • Cubic zirconia gives sparkle at a very low price
  • Twisted rope chain adds texture and looks less plain than a standard link chain
  • Square cross design is a modern take on a classic religious pendant
  • Gold-tone finish pairs easily with other gold jewelry
  • At $12.25, low risk if it is worn occasionally
Cons
  • Brass base with gold-tone plating can tarnish or wear with daily use
  • Cubic zirconia is not a diamond and will not match fine-jewelry sparkle
  • Rope chains can snag on hair and knits
  • No chain length or clasp type is specified, so fit is uncertain online

Questions and answers

Is this real gold?
No. It is gold-tone brass with cubic zirconia stones, so it is fashion jewelry, not solid gold.
Will the finish tarnish?
Gold-tone plating over brass can darken or wear over time, especially with sweat, perfume and water. Keep it dry and store it separately to slow that down.
What is the chain length?
The listing does not state a length or clasp type. Check the product details before ordering if fit matters.
Is it good for a gift?
At $12.25 it works as a small gift for a baptism, confirmation or everyday wear, but it is not a keepsake piece.
How does it compare with a sterling silver cross necklace?
Sterling silver costs more but resists tarnish better and lasts longer. This piece wins on price and sparkle for occasional wear.
When is the best time to buy?
Religious gift season and holiday sales are when fashion jewelry is most often discounted. The current $12.25 at Macy's is the only new price listed as of November 7, 2026.
Where is the Unwritten Cubic Zirconia Cross Square Design Twist Chain Necklace cheapest?
At Macy's, for $12.25, as of our latest check.
